    Magnetic structure of intermetallic compounds of rare earth and 3d transition metal with the C15 structure is studied on the basis of the classical Heisenberg model. By making use of the Lyons-Kaplan method, magnetic phase diagram is calculated with respect to the states with the modulation wave vector Q equivalent to [0,0,0] to obtain seven types of spin structure, and their stability is compared with screw structures of Q parallel with [0,0,1], [1,1,0] and [1,1,1].     Computationally efficient algorithms for the two-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnov test

    Goodness-of-fit statistics measure the compatibility of random samples against some theoretical or reference probability distribution function. The classical one-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is a non-parametric statistic for comparing two empirical distributions which defines the largest absolute difference between the two cumulative distribution functions as a measure of disagreement. Adapting this test to more than one dimension is a challenge because there are 2^d-1 independent ways of ordering a cumulative distribution function in d dimensions. We discuss Peacock's version of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for two-dimensional data sets which computes the differences between cumulative distribution functions in 4n^2 quadrants. We also examine Fasano and Franceschini's variation of Peacock's test, Cooke's algorithm for Peacock's test, and ROOT's version of the two-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. We establish a lower-bound limit on the work for computing Peacock's test of Omega(n^2.lg(n)), introducing optimal algorithms for both this and Fasano and Franceschini's test, and show that Cooke's algorithm is not a faithful implementation of Peacock's test.     Discrete R-symmetries and Anomaly Universality in Heterotic Orbifolds

    We study discrete R-symmetries, which appear in 4D low energy effective field theory derived from hetetoric orbifold models. We derive the R-symmetries directly from geometrical symmetries of orbifolds. In particular, we obtain the corresponding R-charges by requiring that the couplings be invariant under these symmetries. This allows for a more general treatment than the explicit computations of correlation functions made previously by the authors, including models with discrete Wilson lines, and orbifold symmetries beyond plane-by-plane rotational invariance. Surprisingly, for the cases covered by earlier explicit computations, the R-charges differ from the previous result.     HIV prevalence and factors associated with HIV infection among male injection drug users under 30: a cross-sectional study in Long An, Vietnam

    BACKGROUND: Sufficient targeted HIV prevention activities aiming at reducing HIV transmission within and from an extremely marginalized population of injection drug users (IDUs) must urgently and efficiently be implemented in Vietnam. This study was conducted to facilitate the development of such activities by describing transmission risks of young IDUs and evaluating factors in association with HIV infection. METHODS: Thirty clusters were selected from 29 hotspot communes in Long An province by probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling method. The snowball technique was used for enrolling participants in each cluster. The cross-sectional association of factors obtained during direct structured interviews to 248 male IDUs aged 14 to 29 years old and with their HIV test results were examined. RESULTS: The HIV prevalence among the studied IDUs was 32%. Age range of 18–20 years old, low educational level, sharing injection equipment or injection drug use in the other cities were independently associated with HIV serostatus in the multivariate analysis. Sexual behaviors did not differ between HIV-positive and -negative IDUs. Among HIV seropositive IDUs who had sexual contact with primary (n = 37), casual (n = 6), and commercial (n = 15) partners, only 5.4% (n = 2), 33.3% (n = 2), and 46.7% (n = 7), respectively, responded that they had used condoms every time. CONCLUSION: About one-third of young IDUs aged less than 30 identified in the hotspot communes in Long An, Vietnam was found to be infected with HIV, and socio-demographic and injection-related factors might account for the infection risk. Prevailing risky sexual behavior of this extremely marginalized population highlights the need to reduce their high transmission risks as a public health priority

    Measurement of the electron transmission rate of the gating foil for the TPC of the ILC experiment

    We have developed a gating foil for the time projection chamber envisaged as a central tracker for the international linear collider experiment. It has a structure similar to the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) with a higher optical aperture ratio and functions as an ion gate without gas amplification. The transmission rate for electrons was measured in a counting mode for a wide range of the voltages applied across the foil using an 55^{55}Fe source and a laser in the absence of a magnetic field.
